I just signed up for vDream. What now?
Go buy an entry-level car at "Auto Row", then go to "Send a Challenge" and race either friends or strangers to make some dough!
I could've swore that we used to get money for invites and referrals. What's going on? Are you guys trying to pull a fast one on us?
Unfortunately, Facebook policy does not allow us to incentivise users for sending invitations. We were able to sneak by for a while there, but all good things must come to an end.
How do I earn cash?
There are various ways to earn cash in vDream, and we hope to provide you with even more in the future. Go here to learn how much you make for each activity.
What is this challenge system thing?
The challenge system is how users race each other in vDream. Both users who are involved in a race must first agree to race. That's right, you can't just pick on anyone without them knowing it. When you're at the track, you can click on the "Send a Challenge" button and challenge a friend, or a challenge random person by clicking "Random Challenge". Once you send a challenge, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and wait for the other person to accept or reject the challenge. If the challenge is accepted, a simulation will be run on the spot and you will be notified of the results.
How many challenges can I make per day?
The maximum number of challenges you can send in one 24-hr period is challenges for the first 4 hours, and then additional challenges every 4 hours after. Keep in mind that maxing out your races could use up a lot of gas!
I don't have any friends, but I want to race. What do I do?
Well, first of all you may want to try joining a book club or something similar in order to meet some new people. But don't worry too much, you're not a total social outcast. Invite some friends to join vDream, or if you're feeling lazy, just head to "Send a Challenge" at the track, and click on the "Random Challenge" button. A random opponent will appear, and you can either challenge them, or draw again if you think they're too fast for you.
I have no gas and no money. What do I do!?
You're out of both gas and money already? Accept some challenges, use that money to fill up your tank, and race people! You might want to try racing someone slower to increase your odds of winning.
How are 1/4 mile times simulated?
Let's just say that's our little secret for now. The most that we're willing to say is that it is dependent on your car's power, weight, aerodynamics, and traction. To spice things up we also threw in some random variations not related to the car, like weather, driver error, etc. Lose that weight and gain power to get the best times!
How are track times simulated?
Track times are simulated using all possible forces acting on your car: weight, horsepower, torque, roadholding (skidpad ratings), braking, and the car's overall weight distribution. The Track portion of vDream Raceway (the infield) is a tight and technical track, therefore the car's agility has a greater influence on good times!
How are endurance times simulated?
Endurance times are simulated also with all possible forces acting on your car: weight, horsepower, torque, roadholding (skidpad ratings), braking, and the car's overall weight distribution. However, your times are largely influenced by your power and roadholding. Also, don't forget that the size of your pitt crew will heavily impact your times. The more friends you have, the faster your times will be!
Turbocharger/Supercharger incompatibility, what does it mean? How do I uninstall a part?
If your car came with a supercharger or turbocharger when it was bone stock, read no further, and go play vDream because you're done! If not then: Superchargers are incompatible with Intake Manifolds, and Turbochargers are incompatible with Headers. If your car didn't come with a supercharger/turbocharger, you may have to uninstall the Intake Manifold/Header. Go to Garage -> Installed, find the conflicted part (intake manifold or header), and click on the icon to uninstall it. Then go to your Parts Shed to install the Supercharger/Turbocharger.
Why is racing so lame?
We figure that if you wanted an awesome racing game experience you would be playing Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport. Rest assured, a fully featured racing game is in the works but we want to make sure we do it right. We have decided for now to focus our energy on developing other aspects of the site like a great database of cars and parts and building a strong community.
I went on vacation for a week and when I came back I had a bunch of chicken outs. What gives!?
Back in vDream's infancy, our active users were sending out tons of challenges to inactive users who would never check them. We decided to reward our active users by having challenges expire after a short period of time. This means that if you receive a challenge and don't respond within 4 days, it will automatically be rejected and you will get a chicken out.
Is there a trade-in for when I want to purchase a new car?
Yes, your current car's depreciated value is taken from the new car's final price.
Whats the trade in value of my car?
The trade-in value of your car is based on the retail cost of your car plus any additional aftermarket parts you have installed.
Why do I have to pay for gas? Weak!
We wanted to simulate real life as much as possible, so we decided to make you have to purchase gas. The more you lighten your car, the better your car's MPG will be!
Why am I getting different power and weight numbers from previewing certain parts in the Garage and Parts Shop?
The data given by the previews is a rough estimate. It's for you to figure out exactly how much a part gives you!
What are the colored borders around the manufacturer icons?
It's a simple Gold/Silver/Bronze system that shows you the performance level of each part. All stock parts and non-performance parts are in gray, basic aftermarket parts are in bronze, and the cream of the crop is in gold.
When can I see *insert car model here* or *insert part model here* on vDream?
Every week there will be an offering for a new car, aftermarket parts for that new car, and aftermarket parts for cars we already have.
Where can I suggest new cars and parts?
For now, head to the facebook application message board, and suggest anything you want to see! For the near future, a poll feature is coming soon that will allow users to vote on the cars and parts that they want to see in vDream.
